A colt out of the record breaking South African bred mare Secret Heart was knocked down for $210 000 to Grupo 7C at the eighth session of the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale on Monday.

Consigned by Denali Stud (as Agent), the colt is a son of former US turf champion Kitten’s Joy, whose 40 plus stakes winners include the Gr1 winners Admiral Kitten, Big Blue Kitten, Real Solution and Stephanie’s Kitten.

A son of El Prado, Kitten’s Joy was Champion Sire in North America in 2013.
The colt’s stakes winning dam, Secret Heart, a Fort Wood half-sister to recently deceased champion racemare Promisefrommyheart, made history when she became the first South African bred mare to produce a Breeders Cup winner.
Her then 2yo son Pluck (by More Than Ready) won the Gr2 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf of 2010, having previously landed the Gr3 Summer Stakes in Canada.
Pluck, who currently stands alongside his sire at Vinery Stud in Australia, retired from racing having won over $720 000 in prize money. He has proved hugely popular at stud, having covered over 250 mares in his first two seasons at stud.
The Kitten’s Joy colt is the fifth registered foal for the now deceased Secret Heart, who is also the dam of the stakes placed Hat Trick filly, Three Hearts. Her final foal is a colt by Medaglia D’Oro (like Kitten’s Joy, a son of champion sire El Prado).
