Seven in a day for Captain Al
Klawervlei’s resident sire Captain Al enjoyed a remarkable day on Saturday when no fewer than seven of his offspring found the winners enclosure.
Four of the Captain Al sired winners saluted in Mauritius, while the other three scored at Durbanville.
His first winner in Mauritius came when Captains Bounty won the third race. Captain Al sons Blood Buccaneer (race 4), Dee Major (race 5) and Captain Magpie then followed up to give their prolific sire a rare four timer.
Meanwhile, at Durbanville, the well bred Zingzilla scored a facile win over 2000m for owner Bernard Kantor and trainer Joey Ramsden. The latter also sent out Captain Al mare Miss Saigon to earn the third win of her career when she saluted, under former champion jockey Andrew Fortune, in race seven.
Sandwiched in between Zingzilla and Miss Saigon was Captain Alfredo’s gutsy dead heat in race six. Now unbeaten in two starts, this Highlands Farm bred 3yo looks well above average, and the full brother to Listed Gatecrasher Stakes hero Zambezi Torrent looks well worth following this season.
Captain Al enjoyed another excellent season in 2013-2014, when his 6 stakes winners included Gr1 winners Hill Fifty Four (J&B Met) and Carry On Alice (SA Nursery), as well as Gr3 Algoa Cup hero Disco Al.
A six times champion sire of 2yos, Captain Al is the sire of 45 stakes winners to date. His over 130 stakes horses include an impressive 26 Grade 1 performers.
Winner of the Grade 1 Cape Guineas, the Roberto grandson has a 2014 fee of R150 000.
