Seventh Feature race victory for Philanthropist in 2014
Drakenstein Stud’s world class young stallion Philanthropist has enjoyed a great run of success with his offspring of late.
Philanthropist was back in the news this weekend, when his son Phil’s Cocktail landed the second stakes win of his career when victorious in the Frost King Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.
The 2yo gelding, who had previously taken home the Simcoe Stakes, took his tally to three wins from just five outings when running out a two and a quarter length winner of the 1400m race.
Philanthropist, whose offspring have won seven feature races in 2014, has an exceptional crop of 2yos representing him this year. His juveniles not only include multiple stakes winner Phil’s Cocktail, but also the smart Eff Bee Eye (Nandi Stakes), as well as Del Cielo – third in the G3 Mazarine Stakes.
To date, Philanthropist has been represented by six winners and eight placed horses from his current crop of juveniles. With a number of well bred youngsters yet to race, this total should still rise considerably.
The sire of millionaire champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream from a small first crop, Philanthropist will be represented by his first South African yearlings this season. Philanthropist’s first foals have attracted rave reviews from all breeders lucky enough to have them, and his ongoing racetrack success will only enhance his first local crop.
A son of world leading sire Kris S, Philanthropist hails from the same Grey Flight female line responsible for former leading South African sire National Assembly. The latter’s champion son Soft Falling Rain is an exciting recruit to the South African stallion band, and begins his stud career at Wilgerbosdrift in 2015.
