Seventh first crop winner for Lateral

Seventh first crop winner for Lateral
Lateral, who currently heads the first crop sires log by prize money, was represented by his seventh first crop winner when Valerin broke his maiden at Durbanville on Tuesday.

The Brett Crawford trained Valerin, who was bred by the Lammerskraal Stud, has been extremely consistent in his career thus far. The 2yo colt, produced by champion race filly Donatella, has now won or placed in five of his six career outings to date.

Lateral has made an exceptional start to his South African stud career. The champion son of Singspiel’s seven juvenile winners include the top-class filly Bilateral, winner of the Gr1 Golden Slipper and third in Saturday’s Gr1 Thekwini Stakes. Out of a Secret Prospector mare, Bilateral, one of the best fillies of her generation, has earned over R490 000 in prize money.

A champion at both two and three, Lateral well be well represented at next month’s Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale. His 15 yearlings include a colt from the family of champions Busted and Spook Express (Lot 147), a filly from the family of legendary SA racehorse Wolf Power (Lot 177), and a colt from the family of champion Lomitas – sire of champion SA sire Silvano (Lot 280).
Winner of the Group 1 Gran Criterium, Lateral will stand for a fee of R10 000 in 2014.
