Silvano continues to soar!

Silvano continues to soar!
South Africa’s record breaking sire, Silvano, had yet another great weekend, when his sons picked up two of three feature races on offer.

Silvano’s weekend began on a high when his son Crown Of Gold, bred by Midlands Equine Enterprise, won South Africa’s longest race on the calendar – the Listed Port Elizabeth Gold Cup over 3600m.

The current leader on the SA sires list’s good fortunes continued on Sunday, when sons Silvano’s Jet, bred by B Filby, and the Digteby Stud bred Hot Ticket ran 1-2 in the Gr2 Betting World Derby.

Silvano is well clear on the general sires log, and has a lead of over R3 000 000 over current runner up Jet Master. It looks certain that Jet Master will finally lose the title he has kept for the past six years.

Silvano, looking for his first general sires title this season, has been represented by no fewer than 11 stakes winners this season:

Martial Eagle (Gr1 J&B Met)
Tellina (Gr2 Gauteng Guineas)
Sedge (East Cape Sprint Cup)
Heavy Metal (Gr1 President’s Champion Challenge)
Happy Valentine (Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship)
Do You Remember (Gr1 Woolavington Stakes)
Vercingetorix (Gr1 Daily News 2000)
Astro News (Gr3 Cup Trial)
Seal (Gr3 Jubilee Handicap)
Crown of Gold (PE Gold Cup)
Silvano’s Jet (Gr2 Betting World Derby)

The stallion, who has five yearlings on the KZN Yearling Sale next month, could have as many as four runners in this year’s R3 500 000 Vodacom Durban July.

The 2012/2013 racing season certainly belongs to Silvano and his progeny!
