Smart win for sales topping colt
Helderberg Blue, the sales topper at the 2012 Cape Premier Yearling Sale (Book 1), scored the first win of his career at Kenilworth on Saturday.
A R2 800 000 yearling buy, Helderberg Blue won a smart race over 1400m, powering away to score by two and a half lengths at just the second time of asking.
The Mike Bass trained colt is owned by Markus Jooste, Bryn Ressell, Marsh Shirtliff and Mrs Ingrid Jooste.
Helderberg Blue is a son of six times champion sire Jet Master, the sire of 54 stakes winners. This tally includes four Equus Champions, including triple Horse of the Year, Pocket Power. Jet Master is also the sire of the very exciting colt Master Of My Fate, winner of his last four starts.
Helderberg Blue, a half-brother to recent winner and Gr1 placed filly Careful Hiker, is a son of the high-class racemare, Our Table Mountain. The latter, a daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, won six races including the Olympic Duel Stakes.
Our Table Mountain has a world class pedigree – she is a half-sister to Gr1 Breeders Cup Mile winner Artie Schiller (sire of two Gr1 winning juveniles in 2013). Her dam and second dam are both multiple Gr1 winners in USA, and it is safe to say, that Helderberg Blue is bred to be any kind!
The colt was bred by Highlands Farm.
