Stakes double for Trippi
Drakenstein Stud’s leading sire Trippi was responsible for a pair of feature race winners at Clairwood Park on Saturday.
His 2yo daughter, Beloved Country, made it three wins from just four outings when she won the first stakes race of her career – the Listed Devon Air Stakes over 1450m, and just a few races later, Trippi’s outstanding daughter, Hammie’s Hooker, landed the fifth feature race of her brilliant career when successful in the Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes.
Beloved Country is one of five black type performers produced in Trippi’s current crop of 2yos. This crop includes Gr3 Godolphin Barb Stakes hero Punk Rocker, and recent Gr1 Allan Robertson Championship third place getter, One Fine Day.
Currently second on the leading sires of 2yos log, Trippi has been represented by 11 juvenile winners locally this season.
He is also the sire of exceptional racemare Hammie’s Hooker, who pushed her prize money to over R1.1 million after her win in the Tibouchina Stakes on Saturday. Bred by the Zandvliet Stud, Hammie’s Hooker, who is out of the Damascus Gate mare Gem Queen, was the top priced yearling at the 2011 Cape Summer Regional Yearling Sale, where she cost R360 000.
A brilliant 2yo herself, Hammie’s Hooker has trained on well, and has won both the Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes and Gr3 Diana Stakes this season. She was also placed in the Gr1 Maine Chance Farms Paddock Stakes, Gr1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes and Gr3 Poinsettia Stakes in 2014.
To date, Trippi has been represented by six stakes horses in 2013-2014, including the Gr1 fillies Not Sulking and Lanner Falcon.
