Stakes winner for Duke Of Marmalade
Drakenstein Stud’s recent acquisition Duke Of Marmalade was represented by a smart European stakes winner on Sunday. His 3yo daughter Ming Zhi Cosmos took her tally to four wins from just eight outings when she won the Listed Premio Nogara at San Siro on Sunday.
It was a first stakes victory for Ming Zhi Cosmos, who was produced by the Group 3 winning Ganges mare, The Wise Lady.
Sire of over 20 stakes horses to date, Duke Of Marmalade’s top performer, the Irish Oaks runner up Venus de Milo, has been entered in the 2014 Irish St Leger.
An exceptional racehorse, Duke Of Marmalade was named Europe’s Champion Older Male of 2008. The bay won five Group 1 races in a row – with his winning streak including the Prince of Wales Stakes, King George and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and Juddmonte International Stakes. He retired to stud with a Timeform Rating of 132.
A son of champion sire Danehill, Duke of Marmalade is a half-brother to 2013 Investec Derby hero Ruler Of The World, who is expected to line up in Saturday’s Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup.
Duke Of Marmalade, whose immediate relatives include champion US sire A P Indy and outstanding South African sire Al Mufti, will stand his first season at Drakenstein Stud in 2014.
