Stunning debut for Querari filly

Maine Chance Farms’ resident sire Querari has made a superb start to his stud career. The son of champion sprinter Oasis Dream (who was recently represented by his 100th stakes winner), made an immediate impression on the South African turf with his first crop, now three. This crop includes G2 Debutante winner Cosmic Light, G1 Thekwini Stakes runner up Melliflora, as well as the talented filly Champery, and ill-fated stakes 2yo Dynamic Speed.

Querari’s second crop, now two, have also made a fast start out of the blocks. The former Italian champion and Group 1 winner has been represented by just six juvenile runners to date. However, five of these six have finished in the money, with Querari’s first 2yo winners this season including the stakes placed filly Fresh and Listed East Cape Nursery hope Cuveo.

The latest Querari sired 2yo to impress was the Maine Chance Farms bred Touching, who made a winning debut for champion trainer Sean Tarry at Turffontein on Saturday.
Touching, a R675 000 purchase from the 2015 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, is certainly bred for the classics but she showed off her class when romping home, by over three lengths, in a juvenile plate over 1000m –and she looks a really smart sort in the making.

On the same day that Touching romped home, another 2yo by Querari put up a smart effort, this time at Kenilworth. Querari colt, Caballo Blanco, made a pleasing debut when he ran third over 1000m –despite losing ground at the start –and he looks sure to go close next time out.

His sire has seven yearlings on sale at this weekend’s March Yearling Sale, with Querari’s MYS draft including a half sister to the stakes filly Jeweller’s Joy (Lot 5), a colt from the family of G1 winners Count Dubois and Irish Haven (Lot 6), and a filly whose dam is a half sister to G3 performer My World and from the family of international G1 winners Imperial Beauty, Jan Vermeer and Together (Lot 193).

Querari also has a cracking draft for next month’s National Yearling Sale, with his six yearlings on offer including a full sister to promising 2yo Cuveo (Lot 84), a half sister to G2 Senor Santa Hcp hero Polar Moon (Lot 267), and a filly from the same family as US champion and top class sire Run The Gauntlet (Lot 279).
