TBA’s exciting stakes incentives
Bloodstock South Africa are pleased to announce that they have implemented a new value added stakes series for R5 000 000 per annum for 2yo and 3yo stakes races.
This programme will incorporate all 76 feature (graded and listed) races for both juveniles and three year olds.
Thus, the added stakes programme will be applicable to 15 Gr1 races, 13 Gr2 contests, 21 Gr3 events, and no fewer than 27 Listed status races.

The R5 000 000 added stake will be divided up accordingly: R3 250 000 to the owners, R1 000 000 divided among the breeders, R500 000 to the successful trainers, and a further R250 000 will be handed out to the NHT and Horse Care Units.

The added stake for a Listed will be R40,000, for a Gr3 R60,000, Gr2 R80 000, and for the connections of a Gr1 winner in this programme will be awarded an additional R100 000.

Buyers need to tick the box when purchasing any yearling/2yo at a BSA sale, and, by doing so, will either buy in, at R5,000 at the National Yearling Sale, or R2,500 at any other Bloodstock South Africa sale.

TBA’s CEO Tom Callaghan is excited about the programme and its future, saying, “The internationalisation of our racing and breeding industry is a major factor in ensuring that breeders, owners and trainers will thrive in this country in the future. We are throwing the stable door at finding a way to export our horses and investing all profits from running sales into these efforts.

The international world want quality racehorses and they gauge how good our horses are through our internationally recognised Graded Race System – hence we need to ensure we support this system and make sure we all aspire to breeding and racing Graded Race quality thoroughbreds – our international reputation depends on it!

Our new added value stakes revamp rewards quality bloodstock and breeding and racing excellence as well as the excellent standards of horsemanship we have in our ranks. The winner of every single black type race for 2 and 3 year olds will receive an added value stake and we feel this is program rewards quality and performance on the track and helps in some way towards improving the overall stake pot.

I encourage all buyers to tick the box, the chances of winning back your investment are much higher than before and it shows how we as an industry rewards success at the highest level which is speaks volumes for our international credibility.”
