The Lion Roars!
The talented Heart of a Lion, who lines up in Saturday’s R600 000 Premier’s Champion Stakes, has been a great credit to his first season sire Seul Amour.
The colt, who is from the small first local crop of Seul Amour, has won his last three on the trot for trainer Gavin Van Zyl. He was most impressively last time out when beating the well bred Adams Rock by four lengths over 1600m in the style of a horse going places.
Unfortunately, Heart of a Lion who has won his last three by a total of nearly 14 lengths, has a wide draw of 14 to overcome in Saturday’s Grade One showpiece.
Sorrento Stud, who bred the colt, are offering a Royal Air Force filly at next month’s Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale, who Annabel Andrews describes as a “scopey, superb temperament and good looks to boot.”
Annabel says of Heart of a Lion, “he was a tall, leggy baby, so we did not put him on a sale and sold him privately off the farm as a late yearling for R40 000. We owned the mare Action Lady with Alf Dickerson and as he was a 50% share holder in Seul Amour so were trying to support the stallion and on conformation we thought she would be suitable. Seul Amour has a superb temperament and good looks to boot.”
The dam, Action Lady, currently has a weanling own sister to Heart of a Lion.
Seul Amour, who stands at the Vanree Stud, is an exceptionally well bred, stakes winning son of champion sire Zabeel and champion racemare Grand Archway.
