Top NYS draft from Cheveley
Cheveley Stud have produced some outstanding racehorses over the years. The farm’s Roll Of Honour includes such champions as Goldmark, London News, Rabiya, Argonaut and leading sire National Emblem, while more recent high-class horses bred at Cheveley include Ivory Trail (Gr1 Champions Cup) and Gluwein (Gr1 Majorca Stakes).
Recently, the Cheveley bred Legislate stamped himself an outstanding racehorse with a sparkling win in the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby of 2014, while the farm are also the breeders of talented 3yo filly Touch The Sky, who won the recent Listed Oaks Trial in facile fashion, to stamp herself as a filly with a tremendous future.
The farm consistently sends outstanding stock to the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, and this year looks to be no exception.
Cheveley’s Vaughan Koster is pleased to offer an outstanding draft of 13 well bred yearling for this year’s Germiston sale. The draft is made up of yearlings by such leading sires as Captain Al, Dynasty, Judpot, Silvano and Western Winter.
Lot 21 is a daughter of Dynasty, whose fillies include the outstanding Equus Champion Beach Beauty. A half-sister to a four time winner, this filly is a three parts sister to the top-class Grade One performer Run For It (by Dynasty), who has been placed in four Gr1 races, and was second in last year’s Gr1 Vodacom Durban July.
Lot 72 is a filly from one of the best families in the Southern African stud book. A daughter of champion Argonaut (whose first crop includes the high-class 3yos Copybook and Ernie or Else), this filly is a half-sister to smart, stakes winning filly Victoria Secret. Her dam, winner of the Gr2 Kenilworth Fillies Nursery, is a half-sister to ill-fated champion Rabiya, as well as three other stakes winners.
Lot 182 is a daughter of Kingmambo’s half-brother, Judpot. Judpot, last season’s Equus Outstanding Stallion, has already sired one champion filly in the form of Along Came Polly, and hopefully this filly can be the next. A half-sister to a stakes performer, this filly is out of a half-sister to a stakes winner, and hails from the famous Sister Sublime family.
Lot 185 is a son of former Equus Champion 2YO and emerging young sire Argonaut. This colt, from the potent Gone West male line, is a half-brother to an astonishing 12 winners. This tally includes the high-class stakes winners Katy’s Lane and Follow The Piper. The latter was a stakes winner of ten, who earned over R800 000 on the track.
Lot 208 is a chestnut son of Argonaut – out of a stakes placed daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire, Fort Wood. This well bred’s first three dams were all black type performers, with third dam being the Gr1 perfomer Classy Play. The latter is the dam of top sprinter Black Skimmer, and also has claims to fame through the deeds of her Derby winning grandson, Legislate.
Lot 216 is a full-sister to the above mentioned Legislate, winner of the Gr1 Investec Cape Derby. A top-class colt, Legislate has already banked over R780 000 and is an exciting future prospect.
A daughter of Dynasty, and out of the four time winning mare Champers, this beautifully bred filly is also bred on the same Sadler’s Wells/Danehill nick which produced one of the greatest horses in history – Frankel.
Lot 348 is a daughter of ill-fated champion sire Western Winter, whose fillies include such Gr1 winners as Covenant, Roxanne, Fair Maiden and champion Bad Girl Runs. Out of a stakes placed mare by leading broodmare sire Complete Warrior, this exceptionally well bred filly is a half-sister to Gr1 Champions Cup winner Ivory Trail, and hails from the potent Best In Show family.
Lot 361 is son of top sprinter King’s Apostle, winner of the G1 Prix Maurice De Gheest. Out of a daughter of world leading sire Red Ransom, this colt is a half-brother to Listed Oaks winner Tuscan Lass. His dam, in turn, is a half-sister to US Gr1 winner In The Gold and second dam Incinerate was a Gr2 winner of 14.
Lot 363 is a son of first crop sire, and multiple Gr1 winner Warm White Night, whose first crop have already fetched up to R800 000. The colt on offer is a half-brother to 6 winners, including Gr2 Selangor Cup hero Mercury Chief. This is the potent Miss Lindeman family whose members include champion Tara’s Touch, Horse Of The Year Blaze Of Fire, and top-class colt Silvano’s Jet.
Lot 381 is a daughter of five times champion sire of 2yos Captain Al – whose daughters include champions All Is Secret and Captain’s Lover. This well bred filly is a full-sister to Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes victress Fragrant Al, and a half-sister to five time stakes winner, Rekindle. Her dam is a winning Fort Wood half-sister to the very quick Gr3 winner, Fine Feather.
Lot 468 is a filly with strong claims to being the best bred on sale. A daughter of Horse Of The Year, and leading sire Dynasty, she is out of the outstanding broodmare Mystic Spring. The latter has produced four stakes winners – including the ill-fated Equus Champion, and multiple Gr1 winner, Rabiya. Mystic Spring (the granddam of champion filly All Is Secret) is also the dam of uber promising 3yo Touch The Sky – winner of the recent Listed Oaks Trial.
Lot 487 is a colt by Dynasty, whose sons include Horse Of the Year Irish Flame, top-class Jackson and the Cheveley Stud bred Legislate. A half-brother to 2 winners, one of whom was stakes placed, this beautifully bred colt is out of a stakes winning half-sister to Equus Champion 2yo, and promising sire, Argonaut. His second dam is the wonderful broodmare Aquasarto – dam of no fewer than 5 stakes winners.
Lot 498 is a truly blue blooded filly. She is by reigning champion sire Silvano, sire of outstanding fillies Flirtation, Happy Valentine, Mi Emma and Field Flower, to name but a few. Out of the G2 winning Elliodor mare (and thus bred on the same cross responsible for champion Aslan), this filly is a full-sister to talented Cape performer, Laurie’s Gold. Her second dam is the top-class G2 winner, and hugely successful broodmare, Hancock Park.
