Top sprinter’s first yearlings to shine

Riverton Stud’s classy sprinter-miler, Blue Tiger, will be represented by his first crop of yearlings in 2014.
And, if the photos are anything to go by, the flashy grey stallion is siring a nice type of horse.

This filly out of out of Miss Wordsworth will be offered at the March Yearling Sale at Durbanville.
Out of a half-sister to stakes winner Noble Century, this filly is a nice, strong compact sort who should come to hand early.

Another cracking sort from Blue Tiger’s first crop is this filly out of Captain Al mare, Solar Galleon. A big, powerful filly, this well bred individual could be anything, and has plenty of paddock value already. A half-sister to Gr1 winner Potent Power (Tsogo Sun Medallion), this filly is likely to be entered in the KZN Yearling Sale later this year.

Blue Tiger was a top-class performer, who won or placed in 30 races. He won over R1 300 000 in prize money, scoring from 1000-1450m.

Blue Tiger won or placed in no fewer than 15 feature races. He scored his biggest win when victorious over triple Horse Of The Year Pocket Power in the Gr2 Diadem Stakes of 2008, with the likes of champion Rebel King and Guineas hero Kapil further back.

He again accounted for the mighty Pocket Power (a four time winner of the Queen’s Plate) when second in the Gr1 Gold Challenge over 1600m.
Also successful in the Gr3 Cape Classic, Blue Tiger accounted for some great horses during his four years on the track. Amongst the stars he defeated were Pocket Power, Mother Russia, Rebel King, Smart Banker, Villandry, Mythical Flight and Warm White Night.

The gallant grey built up a great name for himself in the Cape’s top sprints, winning or placing in all of the Diadem, Merchants and Cape Flying Championship (twice second).

A Bold Ruler line horse (like sensational young sire Judpot), Blue Tiger is a half-brother to star sprinter Rodoille (winner of the Gr1 Computaform Sprint), as well as Compass Point (dam of champion and Gr1 Cape Guineas winner Pointing North).

Another half-sister to Blue Tiger, Prive, is the dam of tough-as-teak filly Louvre – winner of nearly R1 000 000, and victorious in the Gr2 Tibouchina Stakes.

This is also the family of champion filly Wainui (a three parts-sister in blood to Blue Tiger) – winner of the Gr1 Queen’s Plate, and dual Met runner up Waitara.

This is also the family of SA Horse Of The Year, and successful sire, Sledgehammer (winner of 21 races).

Blue Tiger’s race record and pedigree combines a rare mix of both brilliance and soundness – a winning combination.
