Treble for Champion 2YO
Former Equus Champion, Argonaut, enjoyed plenty of success with his progeny this past Saturday.
The Cheveley Stud based horse was represented by three individual winners on Saturday- which included a classic trial winner (all from his first crop of 3yos).
Argonaut’s weekend kicked off in style, when he sired the first two winners at Scottsville on Saturday.
His gelded son, Wolf In Winter, broke his maiden in good style, when winning over 1000m.
Out of a Wolfhound mare, the Gary Player Stud bred Wolf In Winter blitzed clear to win as he liked by 3.25 lengths.
Argonaut made it a quick double, when his eye catching daughter, Clear Sailing, made a winning debut in the very next race! The Robert and Robin Muir owned 3yo, a half-sister to smart seven time stakes winner Way Clear, scorched clear to win by a length over 1000m.
The third leg of the Argonaut treble came in the form of the classy performer, Ernie or Else.
Now a three time winner, Ernie Or Else stamped himself a potential classic winner when he won the Guineas Trial at Borrowdale in a canter by five lengths. Bred by Dr Ian Heyns, Ernie Or Else’s third dam is the US Grade One winner Squeak.
Argonaut was South Africa’s Equus Champion 2YO Colt of 2006-2007, and his wins included a five length romp in the Gr1 Golden Horseshoe at two, with Argonaut winning three of his four career outings.
To date, Argonaut has been represented by 15 individual first crop winners.
