Broadway Trip, an unbeaten son of Drakenstein Stud’s leading sire Trippi, showed his class with an off the pace win in the BSA August Million Colts & Geldings at Scottsville on Sunday.
Making just his second racecourse appearance, the Moutonshoek bred colt powered home, despite running a bit green and having a wide draw of 12 to overcome, under jockey Randall Simons to post a two and a quarter length win in the 1400m contest.
In landing this R1 000 000 feature, Broadway Trip took his tally to two wins from as many outings. He has banked R684 375 in just two outings and won’t stop here!
Trainer Alec Laird commented after the win, which saw the colt make up eight lengths from the back of the field, ““From that draw we had no option but to drop him in. Thankfully they went a good pace and it worked out well. He was a small horse when he first came in but has come along well.”
The colt, who has a full-brother on offer at this week’s National Two Year Old Sale, was a R300 000 purchase from last year’s National Two Year Old Sale.
Broadway Trip has ensured his sire Trippi, South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2015-2016, has made the perfect start to the 2017-2018 racing season.
Trippi, represented last season by the graded winners Deo Juvente, Gold Standard, Live Life and Trip To Heaven, will be represented by five lots on this week’s National Two Year Old Sale, including a half-brother to Silva’s Bullet, third to Broadway Trip in the BSA Million, (Lot 295), and a colt out of G1 SA Fillies Sprint winner Wonderful World (Lot 245).
