Trippi colt tops CTS Sale
A son of Drakenstein Stud’s leading sire Trippi topped the two day CTS Ready To Run Sale, presented by Lanzerac Hotel & Spa, which took place at Durbanville racecourse over the past weekend.
Consigned by Klawervlei Stud, as Agent, the sales topping colt (already named Perpetual Silence) was knocked down to leading conditioner Geoff Woodruff for R1 500 000.
Just the second lot to come into the ring on Saturday, Perpetual Silence is out of Gr2 Post Merchants third Nimely, a daughter of champion sire Jet Master and Nimiety – a full sister to former Gr1 Met winner Alastor.
Perpetual Silence’s third dam is the high-class racemare Damascus Road, who won eight races including the Tibouchina Stakes.
The colt was one of four lots knocked down for R1 million plus at a sale where graduates automatically qualify for the 2015 R2.5 million Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes.
There was also keen interest in lot 20, a colt by Klawervlei Stud’s exciting first crop sire Warm White Night. The colt, named Kemal Kavur, was knocked down to Vaughan Marshall for R1.1 million – a real coup for multiple Grade 1 winner Warm White Night, who boosts a stud fee of R15 000.
Top priced filly at the two day sale was lot 47, a beautifully bred daughter of ill fated champion sire Western Winter (sire of such outstanding fillies as Bad Girl Runs, Covenant, Fair Maiden and Nania). She was snapped up by in-form Gauteng based trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren for R500 000.
Named Isabelle, the filly is out of the well performed Captain Al mare Townsend, whose five victories included the Gr2 Odessa Stud Fillies Championship. Townsend is also a half sister to the Gr1 Champions Challenge winner Regal Ransom.
The sale catalogued a total of 181 horses, of which 13 were late withdrawals. The 2014 RTR Sale posted a gross total of R32.510 million, while the average for the sale was R195 843, and the median R150 000.
