Trippi mares star at Keeneland
Daughters of Drakenstein’s resident sire, Trippi, proved very popular on day one of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale, which got underway on Tuesday.
Trippi’s brilliant daughter, R Heat Lady, was the fifth top lot on day one. The former Gr1 Spinaway Stakes winner was knocked down for $1 600 000, and was bought by Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings. In foal to leading US sire Bernardini, R Heat Lightning was an exceptional racemare, won just under $1 000 000 during her brief racing career. Apart from winning the Spinaway, R Heat Lightning, catalogued as lot 16, also won the Gr2 Gulfstream Oaks, and was second in both the Gr1 Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies and Gr1 Frizette Stakes.
The second Trippi daughter to catch the eye on day one of the Keeneland Sale was R Holiday Mood, who was sold for $625,000. Bought by WinStar Farm, R Holiday Mood sold as a broodmare prospect. A five time winner, R Holiday Mood scored her biggest victory when landing the Gr3 Hurricane Bertie Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
The marathon sale ,continues until November 14th, sees a large number of well bred fillies and mares come up for sale.
Trippi has made a bright start to the 2013-2014 racing season. The sire of last season’s Equus Award nominee For The Lads has been represented by a number of smart recent winners, including Cape Sugarbird, Mysterio, and the brilliant Hammie’s Hooker, who was victorious in the recent Gr3 Diana Stakes.
Trippi also has two fillies entered in Saturday’s Gr2 Choice Carriers Fillies Championship at Kenilworth – Lanner Falcon and Trippissa.
His 13 lots on offer at the 2013 Cape Ready To Run Sale include a colt out of Equus Champion Bold Ellinore, a colt whose third dam won the Epsom Oaks, and a colt out of smart sprinter Galaxy Gal (by Encosta De Lago from a world class field).
