Two for Moonlit Prairie!
Highlands Farm’s beautifully bred broodmare, Moonlit Prairie, must be considered one of South Africa’s most valuable mares. The daughter of former Gr1 Breeders Cup Mile hero Cozzene is not only exceptionally well bred, but she has done exceptionally well at stud.
On Saturday, two of Moonlit Prairie’ sons scored feature race wins. Her magnificent son Jackson landed the third Gr1 win of his career when running out an impressive winner of the Gr1 Champions Cup. The sales topper at the 2010 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, the Highlands bred Jackson (Dynasty – Moonlit Prairie) is owned by Ian Longmore and Jack Mitchell.
Jackson will prove an exciting addition to the South African stallion ranks when he retires to stud.
Just four races later, another son of Moonlit Prairie was back in the winners box after winning a feature race. Jade Bay (Jallad – Moonlit Prairie) scored the first black type win of his career when successful in the Listed Umgeni Handicap. Now a five time winner, Jade Bay is owned by Mr & Mrs Zackey, Mr & Mrs Aboud, & Messrs de Beer, G Nassif, J Nassif, Z Nassif and J Sarkis.
From the wonderful No Class family, responsible for such champions as Sky Classic, Dance Smartly and world leading sire Smart Strike (as well as promising South Africa first season sire Sail From Seattle), Moonlit Prairie herself was a winner and has done even better in the breeding shed.
She is the dam of three winners, to date, who have won 12 races in total.
In foal to Dynasty (sire of Jackson), Moonlit Prairie has a Trippi colt foal. Hopefully, she can continue to enhance her already formidable record over the next few seasons.
