Klawervlei Stud’s boom sire Twice Over was once again in the spot light at Friday night’s KZN Racing Awards evening.
His son Do It Again, whose groom Isaac Mwalese was named Groom Of The Season, was crowned KZN Racing’s Horse Of The Year following a season, which saw the Twice Over first crop son win both the 2018 G1 Vodacom Durban July and G2 Daisy Guineas.
Bred by the Northfields Stud, the recently turned four-year-old has won or placed in seven of eight outings, with Do It Again having banked R3 307 500. The champion is trained by Justin Snaith and races for Nick Jonsson, Bernard Kantor, and Jack Mitchell.
Do It Again had earlier been crowned Equus Champion 3YO Colt/Gelding for 2017-2018, and also picked up a Cape Racing award for Champion 3YO Male and the Cape Breeders award as last season’s Champion Middle Distance Horse.
Four time G1 winning European champion Twice Over, whose son Twice A Poet made an eye catching debut over 1200m on Friday, has made a stunning start to his stud career, with Twice Over first crop stars including not only Do It Again but also G1 winning 2yo Sand And Sea and brilliant G3 Highlands Stud Winter Derby hero Doublemint.
From the same family as current promising 2yos Viadera and Junius Brutus, Twice Over was South Africa’s Leading Second Crop Sire of 2017-2018.
Twice Over, who had yearlings make up to R1 000 000 in 2018, is a direct descendant of US Broodmare Of The Year Kerala, the dam of Horse Of The Year and top sire Damascus.
