US Grade 3 win for Trippi son
Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi is responsible for Thursday’s Gr3 Vernon O.Underwood Stakes winner, Majestic Stride.
In scoring a 2.5 length victory in this $100 000 sprint contest, Majestic Stride took his winning tally to four from just seven outings.
Fourth in the Gr1 Breeders Cup Sprint last time out (where he was beaten less than two lengths), Majestic Stride is clearly a talented sprinter, who should do well in the country’s top sprints during 2014.
A 4yo gelding, Majestic Stride was sent out a prohibitive 7-10 shot to win the Underwood, a race won previously by such outstanding US sprinters as Pancho Villa, Smiling Tiger, Meafara, Taste Of Paradise and Bordonaro.
Thursday’s feature winner was produced by the Great Above mare, Great Looking Miss – a stakes placed winner of six.
Majestic Stride’s sire, Trippi (End Sweep – Jealous Appeal), has now produced 39 stakes winners, and his offspring have earned in excess of $46 million in prize money.
His local winners include star fillies Hammie’s Hooker, Agra and Franny, as well as Saturday’s feature race contenders Desert Sheik (Gr2 KIC Merchants), For The Lads (G3 Gauteng Fillies Mile) and Golden High (Gr2 The Investec Dingaans).
