Variety Club takes high ranking
The Beaumont Stud bred superstar Variety Club has been rated officially the second best horse in the world.
A dual Horse of the Year in South Africa, Variety Club has been given a rating of 126 – which places the handsome entire just four pounds below the world’s top rated thoroughbred, Just a Way (130). The latter was a devastating winner of the G1 Dubai Duty Free, where he thrashed a world class field by
Variety Club, who has won ten of his last 11 outings, was the first international horse to win the Gr1 Champions Mile in Hong Kong. He had previously also enjoyed a successful Dubai campaign, where he was victorious in both the Gr2 Godolphin Mile and Gr3 Firebreak Stakes.
The son of leading local sire Var is rated above such top horses as triple Santa Anita Handicap winner Game On Dude (125), Kentucky Derby winner California Chrome (124), Dubai World Cup hero African Story (123), US champion Will Take Charge (123), QE II Cup hero Designs On Rome (123), top Aussie sprinter Lankan Rupee (123), Oratorio sired champion Military Attack (123) and Cirrus Des Aigles (123). The latter became the first horse ever to defeat wonder filly Treve when successful in the recent G1 Prix Ganay.
Variety Club, who has earned over R20 000 000 in prize money, is being aimed towards a tilt at the Gr1 Breeders Cup Mile at the end of the year.
Out of the Secret Prospector mare La Massine, Variety Club has won 17 of 23 outings – and is without question one of the finest racehorses ever bred in South Africa.
