Drakenstein Stud’s increasingly successful sire What A Winter enjoyed a quickfire double at the Vaal on Thursday when his progeny won races sixth and ten respectively.
The multiple Equus Champion’s first winner on Thursday came when his talented son Warrior’s Rest made all to land a MR 94 handicap over 1500m.

Under a great ride from the Avontuur sponsored Lyle Hewitson, the Lammerskraal Stud bred four-year-old dug down deep to register a 1.1 length win over the useful Danza.
One of the best of his age at two, Warrior’s Rest (who has now won his last two races in a row) has now won or placed in nine of only 15 outings, with Thursday’s win taking the gelding’s earnings to R408 850.

Trained by Sean Tarry, Warrior’s Rest was a R900 000 buy from the 2016 CTS Ready To Run Sale.

What A Winter’s second success on Thursday came when his Paul Peter trained son Winter Storm won for a second time, when scoring a three-parts of a length win in the tenth and final race of the afternoon.

South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2016-2017, What A Winter, whose daughter Durty Nelly romped to a 4.75 length win at Kenilworth on Tuesday, is enjoying another tremendous season with his notable performers including the G1 Bidvest Majorca Stakes winner Clouds Unfold. The latter, who has already earned over R1.4 million in stakes, has won six of only eight outing, with Clouds Unfold having already won four graded races.
