Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s resident stallion Oratorio has been enjoying a tremendous run of form of late, with his progeny winning feature races

The triple G1 winning son of Danehill was at it again this weekend, when his son Divine Odyssey romped home to score an emphatic victory in the G2 Colorado King Stakes, run over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday.
Appearing to relish the soft underfoot conditions, the classy four-year-old impressed, despite being out at the weights, when scoring a 3.1 length win, under jockey Calvin Habib, to provide his trainer Johan Janse Van Vuuren with a third Colorado King success.
In landing Saturday’s R400 000 race, Divine Odyssey accounted for six previous graded stakes winners and took his tally of wins to five and his earnings to R636 825.
In the process, Divine Odyssey was making it back to back feature race victories, with the Lawrence Wernars bred gelding having landed the Listed Drum Star Handicap at his previous outing.
Oratorio’s progeny have now won four South African feature races in less than a month, with Divine Odyssey’s success joining the likes of Mardi Gras (G2 Senor Santa Stakes) and Van Halen (G3 Man O’War Sprint).
The sire of nearly 100 black type performers in total (and eight G1 winners), Oratorio, twice champion sire in Italy, has 17 lots on offer at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
