Avontuur Thoroughbred Farm’s in-form stallion Oratorio enjoyed another big weekend this week, with the triple G1 winning son of Danehill responsible for a pair of winners in South Africa on Friday, and another of the sire’s sons, Perplexing, winning in Mauritius on Saturday.
Oratorio’s son Viva Rio became his sire’s 55th stakes winner when he won the Listed Racing Association Stakes at Fairview on Friday for in-form trainer Glen Kotzen and red-hot rider Morne Winaar.
The Gold Star Stud bred three-year-old made it three wins on the bounce when romping home to a decisive two and a half length win in a race won previously by such star performers as July winners Big City Life and Bold Silvano.
Out of the Jet Master mare Little Jet, Viva Rio has now won three of only seven starts and looks an exciting future prospect.
His sire Oratorio had a quick-fire double on Friday at Fairview, with his son Beethoven scored over 1200m for trainer Tara Laing and jockey Chase Maujean.
The Avontuur based sire then enjoyed further success when his son Perplexing scored at Champ de Mars on Saturday.
A dual champion sire in Italy, who, like Sadler’s Wells and Giant’s Causeway, won both the G1 Eclipse Stakes and Irish Champion Stakes, Oratorio has been in fine form this season, with his other notable performers including the promising Ultra Magnus and Group Wreck International Non-Ferrous Beach Beauty Mile heroine Mary O.
The son of Danehill, and sire of recent Hong Kong winner Ezra, has two lots on Sunday’s Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, and six lots on the CTS Ready To Run Sale later this month.
