Maine Chance Farms’ resident, and South Africa’s reigning champion sire, Silvano was responsible for his 90th individual stakes winner when his unbeaten daughter Summer Pudding won the G3 The Citizen Fillies Mile at Turffontein on Saturday.

Trained by Paul Peter, and ridden to victory by Warren Kennedy, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Summer Pudding made it three wins from three starts when holding on to post a 0.3 of a length win in Saturday’s 1600m feature for 3yo fillies.
A smart winner on debut when victorious over 1400m, 3yo Summer Pudding followed her debut score up with a win over 1600m before going on to land Saturday’s R200 000 in courageous fashion.
Out of the Strike Smartly mare Cherry On The Cake, Summer Pudding is a three-parts sister to high-class filly Blossom (by Silvano), runner up in the G2 Wilgerbosdrift SA Oaks last season.

Saturday’s Fillies Mile winner is also bred on very similar lines to the smart Silvano sired runners Simply Royal (G3 Acacia Handicap) and Royal Crusade (3rd G2 Gauteng Guineas).
Champion Sire in South Africa in 2012-2013, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019, Silvano is currently the sire of over 160 black type horses, including four G1 Vodacom Durban July winners, current star galloper Hawwaam, and current boom young sire Vercingetorix.
Summer Pudding is one of several promising 3yos for Silvano this season, with others including G3 Cape Classic hero Silver Operator and Saturday’s G3 Concorde Cup second Sachdev.
Silvano also made headlines earlier this year when his son Masaki was knocked down to Shadwell South Africa for R9 000 000 at the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
