Maine Chance Farms’ sensational young stallion Vercingetorix came up with yet another first crop stakes winner when his son Mount Anderson captured Saturday’s Listed Christmas Handicap (1600m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

The gelded four-year-old was allowed to start a 10-1 shot for Saturday’s Boxing Day feature, with Mount Anderson having proved a shade disappointing at his two previous starts.
However, the Millstream Farm bred Mount Anderson proved his last two starts wrong with a strong effort under a well judged ride from Keagan De Melo.

The latter kept the lightly weighted Mount Anderson just off the pace set by Priceless Ruler (8-1), before bringing Mount Anderson with a strong challenge close home.

Tote favourite Baby Shooz (15-4) launched a strong challenge down the inside, but De Melo coaxed more from Mount Anderson and the pair went on to score by half a length.

Mount Anderson, who claimed his first feature race success in a time of 95.31, has now won four of 13 starts for earnings of R296 375.

A sixth stakes winner to have emerged from his exciting young sire Vercingetorix’s first crop, Mount Anderson was a R650 000 buy from the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
