Varsfontein Stud’s red hot resident sire Gimmethegreenlight, responsible for graded stakes winners on each of two last Saturdays, continued his good streak when South Africa’s reigning champion sire supplied two eye catching winners at Kenilworth on Wednesday afternoon.

Gimmethegreenlight’s well bred three-year-old son Universal made it two wins from just four starts when he captured Wednesday’s sixth race, the Racing Association MR 95 Handicap (1600m).
Under Craig Zackey, the Adam Marcus trained colt came with a late burst to get up close home and win, a shade cosily, by nearly half a length.

Bred by the Tawny Syndicate, Universal, who was sent off favourite for the G3 Cape Classic last time out, is out of the Jet Master mare Cupid -and he is thus bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Jet Master cross as graded stakes winners Green Plains, La Bella Mia and One Night In Paris.

The promising Universal had made an eye catching start to his career when breaking his maiden by nine and a half lengths at just the second time of asking.

Universal is one of a number of high-class three-year-olds representing his champion sire this season -as is Kwinta’s Light, who provided Gimmethegreenlight with his second success at Kenilworth on Wednesday.

Bred by the Syrilla Stud, Kwinta’s Light has now won twice from seven starts, with the filly having finished second, to her paternal half-sister Mercury Rising, in last season’s Listed World Sports Betting Perfect Promise Sprint.
