Eighth first crop winner for Erupt

1st July 2022

Maine Chance Farms’ dual G1 winning stallion Erupt has had a great week and his gelded son Beerenberg became his sire’s eighth first crop winner when he scored a convincing winner at Fairview racecourse on Friday.
Trained by Justin Snaith, two-year-old Beerenberg had finished second over 1000m at Kenilworth last time out, and the Normandy Stud bred gelding was all the rage for Friday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m), with Beerenberg starting a 77-100 tote favourite.
Under Corne Orffer, Beerenberg stayed on powerfully in the closing stage to score by an emphatic two and three-quarter lengths.

The race was a good result for Erupt, with the son of Dubawi also sire of fourth place finisher Russian Empire.

Out of the Warm White Night mare Nordic Light, Beerenberg, now a winner or placed four times from five starts, is one of a growing number of winners for his sire.

His G1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris/G1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes winning sire has been in great form this week, with Erupt also supplying two winners at Durbanville on Wednesday.

Currently the second Leading First Season Sire of 2021-2022, Erupt hails from the same female line as champion sires Encosta De Lago, Flying Spur and Holy Roman Emperor.
