Rafeef colt lands Sales Cup

26th February 2023

Ridgemont Highlands’ impressive resident sire Rafeef has made a scintillating start to his stud career, and the son of Redoute’s Choice looks to have yet another bright prospect to his name in the form of unbeaten two-year-old Outlaw King.

The latter made it two wins from two starts when romping home to a brilliant win in the R400 000 Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (C&G) (1200m) run at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.
Under Keagan De Melo, Outlaw King simply outclassed his rivals in Saturday’s R400 000 contest, with the Dean Kannemeyer trained juvenile drawing off to win as he liked by three and three-quarter lengths.

Bred by James Armitage, Outlaw King had won his only previous start prior to Saturday when running out a two length winner over 1200 metres.

Outlaw King, who is out of the Greys Inn mare Way Of Escape, was a R300 000 buy from the 2022 National Yearling Sale.

He is one of three two-year-old winners for Rafeef this season thus far, with the Ridgemont Highlands resident also responsible for debut winner Midnight Fusion and facile recent winner Troppo Veloce.

Rafeef, whose daughter Mounia captured the 2021 Bloodstock South Africa Cape Yearling Sale Cup, made the perfect start to his stud career when his first crop yielded the G1 winners Aragosta (WSB SA Derby) and Master Archie (Computaform Sprint).
