Diana Stakes success for Gold Standard

8th October 2023

The now Birch Bros-based Gold Standard made his presence felt at Hollywoodbets Durbanville on Saturday, where his top-class daughter Golden Hostess romped home to a facile in the G3 Hollywoodbets Diana Stakes (1400m).
Sent off a well-backed tote favourite, four-year-old Golden Hostess gained a well-deserved first-graded win with a convincing display in Saturday’s R200 000 feature race.
Under Aldo Domeyer, the Candice Bass-Robinson-trained Golden Hostess stormed into the lead 200m from home in the 2023 Diana Stakes and powered away to win emphatically by three and a quarter lengths.
Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Golden Hostess had been unlucky not to win a feature race last season, with the Gold Standard daughter finishing third in both the G1 Schweppes Majorca Stakes and G1 South African Fillies Sprint last season.
Out of the French Deputy mare Hosta, Golden Hostess has now won four of 14 starts with the filly having banked R638 937 in prize money.
Golden Hostess hails from the small first crop of G2 Selangor Cup winner and G1 Cape Guineas runner-up Gold Standard. This crop is also responsible for the Listed Jamaica Handicap winner Gold Poker Game and the very smart Hold My Hand. The latter has finished second or third in three black-type races and ran third in last season’s G1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas.
By the same sire as Saturday’s G3 Hollywoodbets Matchem Stakes winning champion Charles Dickens, Gold Standard has a single lot on offer at the 2023 November Two Year Old Sale.
