Wednesday double for Querari

8th February 2024

Maine Chance Farms’ G1 winning stallion Querari had a good day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday, when the son of Oasis Dream had two winners from just three runners. Querari’s only other runner at Greyville on Wednesday, Griffin Park, finished second in the sixth race on the card.
Querari struck first on Wednesday when his son Farland romped home to claim the second race emphatically. Under Anthandiwe Mgudlwa, the Doug Campbell-trained eight-year-old was always up with the pace, and, when asked the question, drew off in the closing stages to score by nearly two and a half lengths.
Bred by Lammerskraal Stud, Farland has now won six times and has earned nearly R500 000 in prize money.
The gelding, who is out of the Western Winter mare Glistening, was a R250 000 purchase from the 2017 National Yearling Sale.
Querari made it a Greyville double in the very next race when his four-year-old daughter Summerland made all to claim the third race in scintillating fashion. Under Nathan Klink, the Corne Spies trained filly galloped on strongly to salute by three and a half lengths.
Bred by Limestone Thoroughbred Trust, Summerland was winning for a second time on Wednesday.
Summerland, who is out of the Second Empire mare Full Moon Rising, was a R175 000 purchase from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.
Twice South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs, Querari is having an outstanding season in 2023-2024, and, at the time of writing, had been responsible for more stakes winners in South Africa this season than the likes of Rafeef, Vercingetorix, Lancaster Bomber and Trippi to name a few.
The inform stallion has a single lot on offer at this month’s Cape Yearling Sale -a filly (Lot 141), closely inbred to Oasis Dream, whose granddam is a stakes-placed half-sister to G1 Dubai Duty Free winner Al Shemali.
