Gimmethegreenlight filly lands Irridescence Stakes

23rd June 2024

South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight looks to have yet another really smart prospect to his name in the form of exciting two-year-old filly Kinda Wonderful.
The latter became her sire’s 64th stakes winner when she won the Listed Irridescence Stakes (1500m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Trained by Eric Sands, Kinda Wonderful had looked unlucky when runner-up, to eventual G3 Langerman second place finisher All Out For Six, last time out, and she duly went one better with a smart performance on Saturday.
Under Craig Zackey, Kinda Wonderful produced a fine turn of foot which saw her storm home to win by a deceptively easy two lengths.
Bred by Varsfontein Stud, Kinda Wonderful, yet to finish out of the first four, has now won twice from just five starts.
The filly is a full-sister to classy filly Third Runway -victorious in both the 2019 G2 Western Cape Fillies Championship and 2019 Listed Irridescence Stakes.
Out of the Black Minnaloushe mare Outrage, Kinda Wonderful was a R650 000 buy from the 2023 August Two Year Old Sale.
She is one of 16 two-year-old winners this season for Gimmethegreenlight thus far, with last season’s Leading Sire of 2YOs also responsible for this season’s G1 Gold Medallion/G3 TAB Protea Stakes winner Proceed, G3 TAB Strelitzia Stakes queen Just Reckless as well as the very promising Gimme’s Countess. The latter made a hugely impressive winning debut at Hollywoodbets Greyville before finishing a close-up, and unlucky, fourth in the G1 Allan Robertson Championship.
Twice South Africa’s Champion Sire, Gimmethegreenlight is on track to head South Africa’s General Sires List again this season, with his offspring having earned more than R26.901 million in 2023-2024.
His champion son Sandringham Summit is set to join his sire at Varsfontein Stud for the 2024 breeding season.
