Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd’s dual G1 winning sire Erupt came up with two winners at Turffontein on Thursday. Erupt went close to having more winners on Thursday, with his daughter Vulcanite running third in the second race and his sons Antonio Guardi and Hazlo Grande finishing third in races three and six respectively.
Erupt’s first success came when his two-year-old daughter Seventeen Again showed courage to land Thursday’s Racing Today Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) (1000m). The Fabian Habib trained filly had finished second in both of her previous starts and won a good race on Thursday.
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, Seventeen Again is out of the Trippi mare Sausalito Bay.
Seventeen Again, the 14th two-year-old winner this season for Erupt, was a R90 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale.
Erupt is also the sire of Vesuvio, who picked his sixth career win when he won the For Hospitality Bookings Call 011 681 1796 Middle Stakes (2600m) on Thursday. The Tyrone Zackey trained four-year-old was given a great ride by Nathan Klink who bought Vesuvio with a sustained run just to hold off runner-up Twenty Drachma’s by a head.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Vesuvio, who is out of the Al Mufti mare Via Cosa Coma, has earned nearly R400 000 in prize money.
His sire Erupt, who shares his legendary sire Dubawi with Thursday’s G3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes winner Ancient Wisdom, has had a good season in 2023-2024. His recent flagbearers include World Sports Betting Grand Heritage winner Unzen, Listed Pongracz Olympic Duel Stakes queen Ripple Effect and Zimbabwe Triple Crown winner Buster Barnes. Another son of Erupt, Shoot The Rapids, ran second in the recent G3 DStv Gold Vase.
