Maine Chance Farms’ soon to be crowned Champion South African sire Vercingetorix had another big day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday.
Vercingetorix colt Chronicle King became his sire’s 60th stakes winner when he won Saturday’s G2 Omoda Golden Horseshoe (1400m).
The Candice Dawson trained colt defied his 33-1 starting price with a courageous performance in the Golden Horseshoe.
Under a strong ride from Muzi Yeni, Chronicle King overcame greenness in running when staying on gamely to best favourite Malmesbury Missile by
Bred by Narrow Creek Stud, the progressive looking Chronicle King races for John Finlayson.
Chronicle King, who is out of the Western Winter mare Written, has won two of just four starts.
He is the second son of Vercingetorix to win the Golden Horseshoe, with the latter’s champion son Cousin Casey victorious in the 2022 renewal.
The unstoppable Vercingetorix went close to having a juvenile graded double, with his G3 Tote Strelitzia Stakes winning daughter Quickstepgal running second in Saturday’s G2 SplashOut Golden Slipper.
Quickstepgal’s full-sister made R1 300 000 to top Thursday’s KZN Yearling Sale.
