The United States colt Clintostar overcame considerable greeness in running when he won Sunday’s Tote For The Win Maiden Plate (1600m).
Under a great ride from Callan Murray, the three-year-old stuck his head down where it mattered most and got up to win narrowly.

The United States is also the sire of Dark Matter, a ready winner of Sunday’s Gallop Form Class 4 (F and M) (1000m). Under Tristan Godden, three-year-old Dark Matter romped home to win by over three lengths for the Hill stable. Bred by Mr Bundhun, the promising filly made it back to back wins on Sunday, with Dark Matter having won two of just four starts.

Owned by Preggie Somasundram, Dark Matter is out of the Where’s That Tiger mare Perfect Tigress.

The United States, who shares his sire Galileo with the likes of Frankel, Teofilo and Australia, is from one of the hottest families in the stud book.
His full-sister Salsa is the dam of this season’s G1 Paddy Power Pretty Polly Stakes/G1 Qatar Nassau Stakes winner Whirl, with Whirl currently second favourite for the 2025 G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Another star three-year-old hailing from this family is Henri Matisse, winner of the G1 Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas). The latter’s third dam is Mill Princess, the fourth dam of The United States.

The latter has eight lots on offer at the August Two Year Old Sale, including a full-brother (Lot 278) to Teo Torriatte.
