Maine Chance Farms’ champion sire Vercingetorix enjoyed yet another big day at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Saturday.
Not only did Vercingetorix gelding Taxi To The Moon win Saturday’s G2 Golden Horse Sprint (1200m), but Vercingetorix’s champion daughter Double Grand Slam ran second, beaten just a neck, in the G1 South African Fillies Sprint brought to you by The Witness (1200m). Another daughter of the sire, Princess Of Gaul ran third in the South African Fillies Sprint.
The Tony Peter trained Taxi To The Moon picked up the second graded win of his career when victorious in the Golden Horse Sprint.
The four-year-old, much improved following a gelding operation, had won the G3 Betway Lebelo Sprint earlier in the season and had also finished runner up in the G1 Computaform Sprint earlier in the season.
Under a well timed ride from Tristan Godden, Taxi To The Moon fought off a wall of challenges to claim the R1 000 000 sprint by a neck.
Owned by Kestorm Investments, Taxi To The Moon has won 8 of 22 starts, with the gelding having finished first or second in each of his last seven starts.
Taxi To The Moon, who was bred by Oldlands Stud, was a R1 000 000 buy from the 2023 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
Out of the Indigo Magic mare Earn A Moon, Saturday’s winner is bred on the same cross as 2021 G1 Gold Medallion winner Ambiorix (also bred by Oldlands).
Vercingetorix has a magnificent record at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, with his other G1 winners there including Mia Moo, Mrs Geriatrix, Vernichey and Alesian Chief. The latter was his sire’s first Golden Horse Sprint, with Alesian Chief winning the then G1 Golden Horse Sprint in 2022.
