Varsfontein Stud’s promising homebred stallion Erik The Red came up with his 12th first crop winner on Wednesday.
His two-year-old daughter Mrsglittersparkles got off the mark when she won at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Trained by Wendy Whitehead, Mrsglittersparkles had finished third in three previous starts and duly made amends on Wednesday.
Under Calvin Habib, the Erik The Red filly went out to make the running in the Catch KZN Racing Via Live Streaming on www.galloptv.co.za Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) and she kept going gamely to win by just under half a length.
Bred by Patricia Devine Investments (Pty) Ltd, Mrsglittersparkles is out of the Jet Master mare Glittering Jet.
Wednesday’s winner was a R130 000 buy from the 2024 Cape Yearling Sale.
Her sire Erik The Red, a graded stakes winner at two and three, is South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire for 2024-2025.
The son of Captain Al, and close relative of Master Of My Fate, currently ranks ninth on the Leading Sires of 2YOs premiership.
