25th G1 winner for Silvano

8th March 2020

Maine Chance Farms’ outstanding sire Silvano, South Africa’s reigning champion sire, was responsible for his 25th individual G1 winner when his unbeaten 3yo daughter Summer Pudding won the G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic (1800m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

Summer Pudding

A first G1 winner for trainer Paul Peter, the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Summer Pudding made it five wins from as many starts when landing Saturday’s R1 000 000 race by a length.

Ridden to victory by Warren Kennedy, Summer Pudding, who has now a trio of graded wins to her name, has now banked R1 120 375 in stakes.

Out of G3 Jacaranda Handicap winner Cherry On The Cake, and closely related to 2019 G1 SA Fillies Classic third Blossom (by Silvano) and G3 Acacia Handicap winner Simply Royal (by Silvano), Summer Pudding has now won the first two legs of the 2020 South African Triple Tiara, with the filly having won the G2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas at her penultimate start.

The filly is the second G1 SA Fillies Classic winner sired by Silvano, whose daughter Orchid Island won the same race back in 2017.

Silvano, South Africa’s Champion Sire in 2012-2013, 2016-2017,2017-2018, and 2018-2019, has an exceptional crop of 3yos this season, with the triple G1 winning son of Lomitas’s sophomores this year including not only Summer Pudding, but also exported G1 Cape Guineas winner Kilindini, G1 ARF Commemorative Cape Derby runner up Sachdev, and the graded stakes winners Silver Host and Silver Operator.
