Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud based sire Jay Peg enjoyed a good double over the weekend, with his winners headed by his son Peggson’s score in Sunday’s Listed Ipi Tombe Stakes.
Bred by Hemel ‘N Aarde, the four-year-old Peggson ran out a three-parts of a length of Sunday’s Listed one mile feature, with Twilight Trip back in second and Zimbabwean champion Simona a beaten favourite in third.

The first three home are all trained by Bridget Stidolph, with Peggson being booted home to victory by Brendon Mcnaughton.

Now a five time winner, Peggson,  third in the Zimbabwean Guineas previously, is out of the Tara’s Halls mare Pistol Dawn.

The gelding was one of two winners on the weekend for former Equus Champion and four time G1 winner Jay Peg, whose son Royal Armour scored at Greyville on Friday night.

Bred by the Waterford Stud, Royal Armour made it win number nine when scoring a comfortable one and a half length win over 1200m for trainer Lezeanne Forbes and jockey Mark Khan.

A R60 000 buy from the 2014 National Sale, the gelded Royal Armour (who is from the same family as Jay Peg himself) has now won or placed in 18 races (he was runner up in the 2017 G3 Kings Cup) and Friday night’s win pushed his earnings to R690 225.

His multiple G1 winning sire is a proven sire of stakes winners, with Jay Peg’s notable runners headed by such graded stakes winners as Silicone Valley, Exit Here, Peggy Jay, Hot Affair, Olympic Owen, Flash Drive and Woljayrine.

Jay Peg has six lots on offer at the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale including a colt (Lot 57) whose dam is a sister to G1 winner Stratos (dam of recent winner Orpheus), a colt (Lot 65) out of a sister to stakes winner Leeward, and a colt (Lot 144) out of a stakes placed daughter of the outstanding sire Dynasty.
