Maine Chance Farms’ inform stallion Querari came up with his 46th stakes winner on Saturday.
Querari colt Star Major caused a 33-1 upset when he won Saturday’s G3 HKJC World Pool Politician Stakes (1800m) at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth, while landing the biggest win of his career thus far.
Trained by James Crawford, the three-year-old was given a fine by Luyolo Mxothwa in Saturday’s contest.
Mxothwa kept Star Major towards the back of the field early on, before bringing his colt with a strong late to get up and deny G1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas runner up Happy Verse victory by nearly half a length.
Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Star Major has now won twice from eight starts for owners Neville Isdell, Mr J I Bloch, Mrs Prakashni Pillay & Kalinga.
Out of the Silvano mare Star In The Sky, Star Major is bred on the same cross as such graded stakes winners as Bavarian Beauty, Cosmic Speed, Homely Girl, Rainbow Lorikeet and Wonderwall.
The colt was a R500 000 buy from the 2024 National Yearling Sale.
His sire Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2Yos in 2018-2019, went close to having a big race double on Saturday with his multiple graded stakes winning daughter Rainbow Lorikeet finishing second in the G1 Maine Chance Farms Majorca Stakes.
