Varsfontein Stud’s champion sire Gimmethegreenlight came up with his 60th individual stakes winner when his Varsfontein-bred daughter Let’s Go Now won the G3 Mother Russia Stakes (1400m) at Turffontein on Saturday.
Third previously in both the G3 HSH Princess Charlene Starling Stakes and G3 Betway Fillies Mile, the Sean Tarry trained Let’s Go Now picked up her first black type win when storming home in Saturday’s R300 000 race.
Under S’Manga Khumalo, Let’s Go Now unleashed a fine turn of foot which propelled her to get up and win on the line by a neck going away.
Out of the Silvano mare Star Express (and bred on the same cross as graded stakes winners Barahin and Cosmic Highway), Let’s Go Now is a full-sister to Equus Champion and G1 winner Bless My Stars.
A winner of three of nine starts thus far, Let’s Go Now was an R540 000 buy from the 2022 August Two Year Old Sale.
Her champion sire (also broodmare sire of Mother Russia Stakes fourth place finisher Lady Fallon) went close to having a feature race double on Saturday, with Gimmethgreenlight son Barbaresco finishing second in Saturday’s G3 Betway Got The Greenlight Stakes, and another son, Silent War, finishing third in Saturday’s Listed Wolf Power 1600.
South Africa’s reigning champion sire, Gimmethegreenlight also had an eye-catching debut winner on Saturday with his three-year-old daughter Green Flash romping home to claim the www.tab4racing.com. Maiden Plate (1160m) by two lengths.
Trained by Brett Warren, Green Flash was bred by part-owner Laurence Wernars.
