Alado half-brother wins Festival Stakes

3rd December 2018

My Nordic Hero, a half-brother to the Hemel ‘N Aarde based Alado, picked up his sixth career victory when he won the G3 ATC Festival Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

My Nordic Hero

The seven-year-old import provided jockey Hugh Bowman and trainer Chris Waller with yet another feature race success when arriving late in the straight at the finish of the 1500 metre event. Positioned towards the back of the field for the majority of the assignment, the handsome grey gelding could easily be spotted making sustained progress down the centre of the home straight before hitting the front with 100 metres and proving too strong for his opposition at the finish.

The winner had half a length to spare over runner up Goodfella, with Chamois Road back in third place.

My Nordic Hero, who was now earned $354 244, had previously tasted black type success when victorious in the 2015 Listed Vincent O’Brien Ruby Stakes at Killarney.

A son of Archipenko, My Nordic Hero will now head to the G2 Villiers Stakes where a win there would assist the gelding to qualify for the G1 Doncaster Handicap.

From one of the best families in the stud book, My Nordic Hero was produced by dual G1 Champion Stakes winner Alborada –a full-sister to German Horse Of The Year Albanova.

Alborada is also dam of the stakes winning Alverita (by Selkirk) and G2 Prix Greffuhle runner up Albion.

This is the same family of the outstanding Cracksman –who will stand his first season at Dalham Hall Stud for £25 000.

Her Danzig son Alado is best known in South Africa as the sire of G2 Selangor Cup hero Rocket Countdown, and the black type performers Northern Conquest and Half Moon Hotel and the useful performers Pale Lilac and Flying Winger.
