Another big day for Trippi!

23rd Oct 2022

Drakenstein Stud’s red hot champion sire Trippi had another memorable day at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Not only did Trippi’s unbeaten son Charles Dickens romp to a brilliant win in Saturday’s G3 Cape Classic, another son of Trippi, and fellow Drakenstein resident, Gold Standard was responsible for the first two home in Saturday’s Prestige Plate.

Trippi also enjoyed success as a broodmare sire on Saturday, with his daughter Agra dam of Saturday’s Need For Speed Sprint runner up Hithemhardsunshine, and another daughter, former G1 South African Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess, dam of Saturday’s Listed Southeaster Sprint second place finisher Gimme A Prince.

However, it was Charles Dickens who was the star of the show at Kenilworth on Saturday. The Candice Bass-Robinson trained chestnut made it four wins from four starts when destroying a smart field to claim Saturday’s G3 Cape Classic by a dominant three lengths.

Bred and owned by Drakenstein Stud, Charles Dickens (winner of the Listed TAB Somerset 1200 at two) had made a breathtaking seasonal debut when he thrashed some very promising three-year-olds when victorious at Hollywoodbets Durbanville in September.

Out of the Dynasty mare Demanding Lady, Charles Dickens is a full-brother to high-class performers Charles and Somerset Maugham.

It was a second consecutive Cape Classic win for Trippi, whose subsequent G3 Hollywoodbets Matchem Stakes winning son Trip Of Fortune had claimed the 2021 Cape Classic.

Trippi has had a sensational season in 2022-2023 thus far, with his other notable performers including the aforementioned Trip Of Fortune, G3 Hollywoodbets Diana Stakes queen Santa Maria and Listed Hollywoodbets Settlers Trophy winner Somerset Maugham.

South Africa’s Champion Sire of 2015-2016, Trippi has been responsible for more stakes winners than any other stallion in South Africa this season.
