Talented four-year-old Invincible Army, whose G1 Falmouth Stakes winning dam Rajeem is a half-sister to the Ascot Stud broodmare Grand Mary, picked up his sixth win (and fifth black type win in total) when he won the G3 Betfair Exchange Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle on Saturday.

Trained by James Tate, and ridden to victory by PJ McDonald, Invincible Army (by Invincible Spirit) stormed home to score a two and a quarter length win in Saturday’s six furlong race as the 10-11 favourite.

McDonald knew immediately Invincible Army was back in top form, and praised Tate for taking the bold decision to run again so quickly after the return to an all-weather surface had paid off.

“You could see with the naked eye that he was back on song – and that was the most important thing,” said the winning jockey.” I have to give James a lot of credit, because it would have been very easy to wrap this horse up and back off him – looking for problems that weren’t there.”

Invincible Army, who has earned over £300 000, could now be aimed at either the G1 Haydock Sprint Cup or G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest.

His close relative Grand Mary (by Kyllachy) is the dam of smart local gallopers Mary O‘Reilly and Grand Silvano, and had a yearling colt this year by Global View.
