Varsfontein Stud’s red hot More Than Ready horse Gimmethegreenlight, whose progeny also inclued multiple Equus Champion Got The Greenlight and Australian G1 winner Yulong Prince, enjoyed another big payday at Turffontein on Saturday when his sons Second Base and Gotthegoahead finished first and second in the G3 Sea Cottage Stakes (1800m).

In the process, Second Base provided Gimmethegreenlight with a second consecutive win in the Sea Cottage Stakes, with Gimmethegreenlight’s son Green Laser having prevailed in the 2020 Sea Cottage Stakes.

Bred by the Gold Star Stud, the gelded three-year-old Second Base took his record to five wins from six starts with a flawless display under 60kgs.
Under Chase Maujean, the Gold Star Stud bred three-year-old romped home in the Sea Cottage Stakes to win by a length and three quarters, with Second Base’s paternal half-brother, Gimmethegoahead, finishing back in third.

Out of the Fort Wood mare Passionate Kiss, Second Base is bred on the same Gimmethegreenlight/Fort Wood cross as fellow graded stakes winners Gee For Go, Green Pepper and Hack Green.

He is the 29th stakes winner for his sire Gimmethegreenlight -South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2015-2016.

Gimmethegreenlight has three lots on the Cape Yearling Sale, and a further 13 lots on the 2021 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
