Ridgemont Highlands’ five time G1 winning stallion Canford Cliffs enjoyed yet another notable weekend this past week, with the former European champion responsible for winners in both Australia and the UK.

Canford Cliffs’ Australian double included a top-class performance from his daughter Princess Posh, who showed her class when she won the G3 Suez Newcastle Newmarket Handicap at Newmarket on Friday.

A first Newmarket Handicap winner for trainer Kris Lees, the mare, a 13-1 shot, dug down deep to prevail by a half-head over Street Cry filly Savatiano with Princess Posh’s stable mate Invincible Gem  back in third spot.
Princess Posh, whose previous wins included the 2018 G3 Yarraman Park Tibbie Stakes, is now likely to be retired.

She was ridden to victory on Friday by Brenton Avdulla, who said after the win, “She ran terrific She’s always been a mare blessed with good ability. She’s probably not the soundest horse Kris has trained but I gave her a good preliminary.”

Princess Posh has now won eight of 27 races, with her Friday win taking the five-year-old’s earnings to $560 120.

Her sire Canford Cliffs enjoyed further Australian success this past weekend with his son The Leprechaun breaking his maiden over 1200m on Saturday.

Canford Cliffs’ success this weekend was not restricted to Australia –his son Drakefell provided Canford Cliffs with a British win when he scored over five furlongs at Wolverhampton on Saturday. Drakefell, who beat 24 time winner Captain Lars  into third place when victorious on Saturday, has now won three times over five furlongs.

An exceptional racehorse, who won group races at Royal Ascot three years running, Canford Cliffs is already responsible for 26 stakes horses and his progeny have already banked over $14 million in prize money.
