Birch Bros’ National Yearling Sale draft

11th Apr 2019

Legendary breeders the Birch Bros invite you to view our draft of yearlings for the 2019 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.

“THE WAY WE RAISE THEM”

The way we raise them and have done for generations Est 1910 – A Nursery for Champions for Over A Century! The oldest existing thoroughbred stud in South Africa – Not many can claim to have been around for that long…We have literally stood the test of time!

The farm is situated at the foothills of the Stormberg Mountain range at an altitude of 5650 feet above sea level. Summer conditions are warm with cool evenings, while temperatures in winter months drop to as low as a freezing 20 degrees Celsius below zero, with snowfall at times. A very healthy climate for animals – The cold sterilizes the environment.

We pride ourselves on breeding and raising our horses in a relatively unique way. The framework from which we work is still very similar to the methods we have used successfully here for generations. We raise them to grow up tough and try to ensure that they stand every chance of standing up to the demands of training and racing.

Mares with foals, weanlings and yearlings run and grow up on a combination of vast open spaces of natural growing grasses and planted pasture lands (Lucerne, barley, oats, rye etc). We believe our conditions are ideal for developing good skeletal structure and strong bone, and ultimately sound racehorses!”

OUR DRAFT OF 9 YEARLINGS ON OFFER

Includes 7 Colts & 2 Fillies by top stallions Querari (2), Ideal World (2), Master Of My Fate, Captain Of All, Coup de Grace, Global View & Willow Magic

2 x Yearlings by QUERARI (Ger) – “SA’s Next Champion Sire” needs no introduction

Sire of Gr1 winner Querari Falcon & SW’s Wonderwall, Monks Hood, Kangaroo Jack, Cosmic Light etc

We offer a colt (Lot 264) and a filly (Lot 366), both are out of well related Silvano mares and are racey individuals with appeal, typical of the sire Querari. The Querari x Silvano cross is proving to be a good one, and these two individuals should have every chance of adding to that success!

2 x Yearlings by IDEAL WORLD (USA) – blue Blooded sire producing the Big Race winners

Ideal World

Sire of Gr1 Met winners Smart Call & Rainbow Bridge, and now a Gr1 Derby winner

A filly (Lot 251), out of a Model Man mare who is a three-parts sister to Equus Champion SPECIAL PARADE, she is a beautiful filly that stands over ground and has tons of quality and class, from a foal she has impressed us massively and may well be the full package, she just could be in the same mold as the champion mare Smart Call. A colt (Lot 392) who is bred from a speedy female line is an exciting prospect out of a Count Du Bois mare who is a full sister to Gr1 2yo winner ZEENO, half-sister to Zili and to promising sire Skit Skizzle.

Yearling by MASTER OF MY FATE – An extremely hot young sire doing the business

A neat, well balanced colt (Lot 308) with plenty of substance that will be even more impressive when he has matured a bit further, out of a full sister to GR1 winner BILATERAL & family of BLAZE OF FIRE, STATE TREASURE etc

Yearling by CAPTAIN OF ALL – A leading freshman sire & son of Multiple Champion sire Captain Al

Out of a National Emblem mare, this colt (Lot 381) is a 3-parts brother to ONLY EMILY, he oozes quality and class, a striking individual. Looks to have that classic speed and is from the family of UNDERCOVER AGENT.

Yearlings by 1st season sires COUP DE GRACE (USA), GLOBAL VIEW (USA) & WILLOW MAGIC

The Coup de Grace colt (Lot 438) is out of a very well related Western Winter mare from the solid Gr1 family of FINE FEATHER, PHANTOM FIGHTER, BARBOSA, FRAGRANT AL, REKINDLE & CAPTAIN’S FLAME. An extremely smart colt that scored very high on inspection.

Coup de Grace

The Global View colt (Lot 468) is good looking and typical of what the sire is throwing, he is from the strong family of Gr1 performers WARM WHITE NIGHT, HIGHLAND NIGHT and GR2 winners WINTERINTHEWOODS, FORT VOGUE & VOGUE as well as recent G3 winner TRISTFUL.

A standout colt (Lot 488) by Willow Magic has the wow factor, he is an exceptionally impressive individual that they will have to ‘go some’ to compete with, also scored very high on inspection, he is out of a half-sister to Gr1w NORTH BY NORTH WEST & family of LINK MAN.
