Cape Mile success for Vercingetorix

17th November 2024

Maine Chance Farms’ star stallion Vercingetorix is having another fine season and the champion son of Silvano struck again at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
Vercingetorix gelding Rascallion claimed his sixth career, and third graded victory when he won Saturday’s G3 Cape Mile.
It was a fine effort from Rascallion with the latter coming into Saturday’s race off a 27-week layoff.
Under a tremendous ride from Gavin Lerena, the Vaughan Marshall trained seven-year-old, and 2024 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met runner up, stormed home late to prevail by a long neck.
Bred by Dr Veronique Kritzinger, Rascallion took his earnings to R1 873 839 with his victory on Saturday.
The gelding is out of the Jet Master mare Sofala and is bred on the same Vercingetorix/Jet Master cross as the likes of African Warrior and Padre Pio.
Vercingetorix had enjoyed more feature race success a week before Saturday, with his son Daimyo victorious in the Listed Woolavington Stakes. The former Equus Champion had also had success on Friday, with Vercingetorix filly Mia Moo winning at Turffontein on Friday night, and son Chieftain likewise prevailing at Turffontein on Friday.
