It was an all but clean sweep for Cape bred thoroughbreds at Tuesday night’s virtual Equus Award ceremony.
Horses bred in the Cape claimed all but one of the Equus Awards for horses at Tuesday night’s ceremony, with the Wilgerbosdrift & Mauritzfontein bred Rainbow Bridge claiming the coveted title of Horse Of The Year.

A son of Mauritzfontein’s resident sire Ideal World, Rainbow Bridge also claimed the titles of Champion Older Male and Champion Middle Distance Horse at Tuesday night’s ceremony.
Leading Cape nursery Klawervlei Stud were crowned Champion Breeders, Oldlands Stud claimed the Outstanding Breeder award, and Varsfontein Stud picked up the International Achievement Award, following the Varsfontein bred Yulong Prince’s success in the G1 Kennedy Cantala last October.
Varsfontein Stud’s More Than Ready horse Gimmethegreenlight was crowned Champion Sire, while Wilgerbosdrift’s remarkable mare Halfway To Heaven claimed the Broodmare Of The Year title for a third consecutive season!
