Maine Chance Farms’ red hot resident sire Vercingetorix has an excellent crop of three-year-olds this season, a fact further underlined when his sophomore son Pomp And Power scored a front running win in Saturday’s G2 Concorde Cup (1600m) at Kenilworth.

Trained by Justin Snaith, Pomp And Power had won three of four starts at two, including the G3 Goals And Gallops Langerman, and was making just his second start at three on Saturday.

Under Grant Van Niekerk, the gelding was quickly away and sent off to the front.

Despite being strongly challenged by tote favourite Cosmic Highway, Pomp And Power kept going gamely in front to post a long neck win.

It was another length and a half back to Equus Champion, and last season’s G1 Premiers Champion Stakes winner, Good Traveller.

Bred by Maine Chance Farms, Pomp And Power has now won four of six starts and looks a likely contender for this season’s G1 Cape Guineas.

The gelding, a R250 000 buy from the 2020 National Yearling Sale, is out of the Candy Stripes mare Peru.

South Africa’s Leading Sire of 3Yos and Leading Second Season Sire of 2019-2020, Vercingetorix is also responsible this season’s other high-class three-years Alesian Chief, Ambiorix, Chansonette, and Fifty Fiver, the latter victorious in the recent CTS De Grendel Ready To Run Stakes.
